The way I looked at you

June 2024 · 1 minute read

Sometimes I almost give up hope

I think it can’t be true

That someone could look at me and love me

Then I think of the way I looked at you

All of you who mattered

I saw greatness in your smile

Goodness and forever in your eyes

Strength and safety in your chest

I saw the looks you graced upon me

The small quirks and smiles

I saw the set of your mouth

The questions in your eyes

I saw the simplest things as if you were my hero

I saw the basic goodness as a golden halo

When I looked at you

All of you who mattered

I saw extraordinary in everything ordinary

And I wanted you to see it too

I tried to save you in me and myself in you

I know now why that failed to come true

But I have hope still, that he will come

He’ll look at me that way and express it too

We’ll both be healthier, kinder, whole

We’ll burn down the world with our glances
